Eagles in “Waiting Pattern” as A.J. Brown Trade Rumors Swirl

Philadelphia’s star receiver could be on the move, but only for a hefty price.
The Philadelphia Eagles are drawing attention this offseason amid reports that the team is open to trading wide receiver A.J. Brown if they receive a substantial offer. NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reports that the Eagles are seeking a return similar to what the New York Jets received for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, a deal that included a first-round draft pick and additional compensation. That move was part of a broader Jets defense shakeup that dramatically reshaped the team’s roster.
The Eagles are not actively shopping Brown and have stated that any potential trade would require a significant offer. The organization does not feel compelled to move their Pro Bowl receiver. Sources indicate the team will only consider a trade if another franchise meets their high asking price. Currently, Philadelphia is in a “waiting pattern,” monitoring the market to determine if any team is willing to meet their demands for one of the league’s top receivers. Other teams have already acted to secure their receiving talent, including the recent Alec Pierce contract agreement with the Indianapolis Colts.
A.J. Brown has played a central role in the Eagles’ offense since joining the team. Known for his physical style and ability to make big plays, Brown quickly became a primary target for quarterback Jalen Hurts. Since his arrival, he has consistently ranked among the NFL’s most productive receivers and has contributed to the team’s playoff appearances and competitiveness in the NFC East.
Trading Brown would significantly impact the Eagles’ offense and have major financial consequences. Reports indicate that moving Brown would result in a substantial amount of dead money on the team’s salary cap, affecting Philadelphia’s flexibility in free agency. With several key players approaching free agency in the coming years, the Eagles’ front office must consider the benefits of a major trade against the potential challenges for future roster construction.
The situation is further complicated by the team’s recent performance. Meanwhile, quarterback movement around the league has also continued, highlighted by the recent Geno Smith trade returning the veteran passer to the New York Jets. The Eagles began last season strongly but experienced a late-season decline, leading to questions about the team’s direction. Brown remained a consistent performer, finishing among the league leaders in receiving yards and touchdowns. His departure would create a significant gap in the offense.
If a team presents a “Quinnen Williams-type deal” that includes a first-round pick and additional assets, the Eagles could consider a trade. Until then, A.J. Brown remains with Philadelphia as the team prepares for the upcoming season with one of the NFL’s top receivers still on the roster.
At present, the Eagles’ front office remains patient, awaiting either a major trade offer or another season of strong performances from A.J. Brown in Philadelphia.
