Trent Sherfield Sr., age 29, joins the Patriots’ practice squad as a wide receiver entering his eighth NFL season. If you’re counting, that’s a lot of playbooks and a lot of locker rooms—Arizona, San Francisco, Miami, Buffalo, Minnesota, and Denver have all been stamped on his NFL passport. Sherfield entered the league as a rookie free agent with Arizona in 2018 and has appeared in 124 NFL games with 14 starts, hauling in 89 receptions for 1,034 yards and 6 touchdowns. He’s the kind of player who knows how to find the end zone—and probably the best coffee spot in every NFL city.

Johnson and Sherfield Sr. bring a healthy dose of depth and experience to the Patriots’ practice squad. Added depth could prove vital as New England manages the ongoing Maye injury ahead of the Super Bowl.
