Jayden Daniels Avoids Surgery After Elbow Injury; Commanders Turn to Mariota

Washington’s rookie QB will be re-evaluated after the bye week as team battles injuries and a four-game skid.
Talk about a tough break—Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will be watching from the sidelines after dislocating his left elbow in that bruising 38-14 loss to Seattle. The silver lining? Medical tests showed no ligament damage, so Daniels dodged the surgery bullet and won’t be heading to injured reserve. He’ll get another look from the docs during Washington’s bye week, right after their Week 11 showdown with Miami in Madrid. Miami is also dealing with injury-related uncertainty this week, highlighted by the Jaylen Warren illness update ahead of Steelers–Dolphins. Fingers crossed, Commanders fans!
The Commanders are in the middle of a four-game losing streak and currently sit at 3-6—a spot no one wants to be in. Fixing those problems isn’t limited to offense, as the team is also reshaping its defense through a Commanders’ defensive coordinator search. With Daniels out, the keys to the offense now land in Marcus Mariota’s hands as he gears up to face the Detroit Lions, who are prowling at 5-4. No pressure, right?
As if things couldn’t get trickier, Washington’s offense is limping along without three of its top five receivers. That shortage of healthy targets is part of why the front office is exploring reinforcements, including Washington’s pursuit of Alec Pierce in free agency. Terry McLaurin, Noah Brown, and Luke McCaffrey are all nursing injuries, leaving the team’s receiving corps looking more like a waiting room than a lineup card.
Before his injury, Daniels was making waves in his rookie campaign, throwing for 1,184 yards, eight touchdowns, and just two interceptions. He’s also shown he can scoot, racking up 262 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Not too shabby for a rookie—when he’s healthy, that is.
Now, the Commanders will have to lean on Mariota and a patched-up offense as they try to stop the bleeding and get back in the win column. Washington fans are holding their breath, waiting for good news on Daniels and hoping the rest of the roster can heal up soon. Hang in there, folks—football season is nothing if not a rollercoaster.
