Antonio Brown Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge After Miami Shooting

Brown allegedly fired shots after a celebrity boxing event; faces up to 15 years if convicted
Antonio Brown, the 37-year-old former NFL wide receiver whose name once lit up stadium scoreboards, now finds himself under a very different spotlight. Brown has been arrested on a second-degree attempted murder charge, following a shooting in Miami that reportedly took place after a celebrity boxing event in May. Talk about a post-game show nobody wanted.
Authorities say Brown’s journey took a dramatic turn when U.S. Marshals nabbed him in Dubai and flew him all the way to Essex County, New Jersey. There, he’s cooling his heels in custody, with the possibility of extradition to Miami looming large. It’s a far cry from touchdown celebrations and end zone dances.
The arrest warrant paints a tense picture of the May 16 incident: Brown allegedly grabbed a handgun from a security staffer and fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu after an argument. One bullet reportedly grazed Nantambu’s neck—a close call that could have ended much worse. Brown was initially detained after the shooting but released, later claiming he’d been “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry.” It seems the night spiraled faster than a fumbled snap.
A warrant for Brown’s arrest was issued on June 11. If convicted of second-degree attempted murder, Brown could be staring down up to 15 years behind bars and a $10,000 fine. That’s a penalty flag you definitely don’t want to see.
Brown last suited up in the NFL in 2021 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but most fans remember his glory days with the Pittsburgh Steelers: 928 career receptions, over 12,000 yards, and 83 touchdowns—numbers that would make any fantasy football manager swoon. Yet, his career has been dogged by legal troubles, including accusations of battery, domestic violence, and failure to pay child support. And who could forget the infamous moment he stripped off his jersey and ran off the field during a 2021 game against the New York Jets? That exit was one for the highlight reels, though not for the reasons he’d hoped.
Now, as Brown faces these serious charges, his future is anyone’s guess. The next chapter of his story is still unwritten—and for now, the only thing certain is that it won’t be played out on the gridiron.
